Tartan Skirts and Festive Fun

I’ve spent the weekend having a pre Christmas Christmas with some friends.

Oh yes. One Christmas isn’t enough for me, I need a trial run first. This weekend we had booked a cottage in the wilds of Norfolk (ok, a mile outside Cromer) for the weekend with some friends. I used it as an excuse to pull out all my most festive outfits. It was Christmas Jumpers, christmas frocks and Christmas aprons ahoy!

My favourite outfit from the weekend was one I considered saving for Christmas Day itself, but then I decided I might want a looser waist band on Christmas day and decided to wear it on Sunday morning. I bought the skirt from a Charity Shop on the Thursday afternoon. I was going to take it up a little, but then I decided if I did that it would sit in a pile and never be worn, so I should wear it anyway.

ā™„ Shoes – Chie Mihara at Bettlicious* ā™„ Hair Flower – Poinsettia ā™„

The shoes are those lush Chie Mihara beauties from Bettylicious (You can win Ā£100 to spend there here!) and the Poinsettia hair flower was a Christmas gift from Betsy Hatter, that I absolutely love (You can win one behind door 5!)

I’m really loving white tights with these shoes, but they didn’t cope well when I stomped in a puddle later on and splashed dirty water up my leg. White tights are for indoor days!

IMG_8083Ā kissesIMG_8053 I didn’t take as many photos as I thought I would, as I was mostly busy enjoying myself. We had Secret Santa gifts and home made crackers, prawn cocktail and board games. Pretty much Christmas Day summed up.

IMG_8021 IMG_8038 IMG_8040 IMG_8041I think I can safely say I am all ready for Christmas now! Just one more week of work to get through!

How about you?

    You look so cute!

That skirt is stunning! I’ve been hankering after some tartan lately too.
I agree that one Christmas is not enough. This Saturday I will be having Little Christmas with my boyfriend. Every year we have a Christmas just of our own where we have dinner and open our presents from each other. It’s lovely and very relaxed.
    Have a lovely second Christmas!

LOVING THAT SKIRT. Kinda 70s-does-older-vintage vibe to it, aka works in any decade! I have a skirt like that – it’s black and red, very Christmassy too! You’ve inspired me because I have been trying to Chrimbo-up my work clothing this week and a tartan skirt and red/white jumper will be perfect!! LOL for me that’s positively subtle!

I adore tartan (always have). Think I must have been a Scot in a previous life. šŸ™‚

What a beautiful skirt! Lucky thing to find it in a charity shop.

It still hasn’t really registered for me that christmas is just around the corner.. Possibly because I’m not going to be at home this year so there’s not as much frantic planning to be done!

I really like that skirt, I actually think the length is perfect!

This reminds me that I need to replace the zipper of my tartan skirt. It’s perfect for christmas/winter.

    I love yours!

First of all, Gemma, I love you. I found your blog half a year ago, but from then, there were no days without it. I always refer to you as my ” cute British vintage girl”, when I talk about you:)
Secondly, I’ve whatched your hair tutorials, but I have a question. On the pictures here, your hair is done with a curling iron? I always want similar style as yours (my hair is the same length approximately), but if I curl it, it lasts half a day, top, with loads of extra strong hairspray. (“Unfortunately”, I’ve VERY thick, straight hair.) Any tips for making curls/waves last longer?

Hi, Aw thanks you! I wet set my hair, so I put it in pin curls when it’s wet and then sleep on it. Curls with a curling iron don’t last on my hair either! A wet set, and some setting lotion is definitely the way to go! x

I *love* the skirt – I keep looking for tartan in the chaz shops, I really want a pencil skirt but the hunt goes on! I have a huge pile of stuff to take up etc – it;s now known as the Ebay pile, although my husband has much harsher names for it! šŸ˜‰

I’m wearing white tights too, but you’re right, rainy English weather is the enemy! x
