Classy Christmas

I might have mentioned before I have an insatiable urge to theme things.

In practice this mostly means if I feel I have a dress that looks a bit oriental I’ll decide to try an oriental hair do, or that if I happen to be watching Goodfellas on TV I’ll feel the urge to prepare an Italian American pasta feast to eat with it.

Christmas, however, can be a bit of a danger zone. A crazy urge to buy flashing Christmas Holly earrings, tea towels with santas on them and mugs in the shape of rudolf with a nose that glows when hot liquids are added overwhelms me. Fortunately I’m generally skint so the worst of my impulses can be contained with an occasional egg nog latte from Starbucks.

I’m suffering from a lack of festive feeling today, so I’m indulging in a little fantasy Christmas shopping to prove that you can shop for Christmas themed stuff without sacrificing style.

Robin Earrings – £4 – Layla Amber

Hand drawn onto shrink plastic, how adorable are these robin earrings?

Figgy Pudding Apron – £24.99 – Aga Cookshop

It’s got a fabulous retro shape, it’s festive AND quite classy! Perfect for playing domestic goddess while you heat up shop bought mince pies in the oven. There’s a whole range of this stuff and it’s on 3 for 2 at present.

Vintage Deer Brooch – £3.99 – Vintage Existence

A brooch is way classier than flashing velour holly earrings.

Red Contrast Seam Stockings – £12 – What Katie Did

Swap your normal stockings for some festive red seams. Subtle, but effective! (A lot more subtle than my santa tights anyway!)

50s Lucite Snowflake Brooch – £5.99 – eBay

I know, I know, 2 brooches, well, I like brooches, and done well they are an excellent way to sneak a bit of festive cheer into an outfit. This snowflake is both topical AND festive.

Of course, once you’re truly sick and tired of pretending you have any class at all you should just give in, drag out the mint Baileys and buy this. It’s only £2.99…..

I saw a pair of christmas pudding earrings in co-op last week, I think they flashed…i don’t have pierced ears and i don’t think Lord C was best impressed when I suggested they were right up his mum’s street….

I like to co-ordinate too, it completes the look, no? I feel SO unChristmassy though, it’s scary. We aren’t even going to bother hacking down a tree from the local park this year. (Just kidding. About not having one).

Ok, those red seam stockings are to die for! I have some red seamed stockings in a yucky ‘nude’ color, but sheer black? Major upgrade in life!

I really like the earrings. That apron is a beaut. To good for cooking in! I think I would just swoosh around the house in it!

Love the jewellery. I love theming things to. When friends come over to dinner it has be a seventies night or Mexican night complete with outfits. I have always fancied doing a black tie day for Christmas day where everyone gets dressed up, unfortunately no when else ever wants to join in. I also love wearing red clothes at christmas even if it is just a pair of tights.

You are so right. I looked at the deer brooch and thought ‘oh lovely’, looked at the lucite brooch and considered one for my coat…

…and yep, then I saw the santa hat and snorted into my coffee with amusement.

I am one of those vintage fans who is more into the whole ‘ripping fun what’ side to things than Hollywood glam- and never more so than at Xmas. I do try to keep it classy (but I don’t try too hard).
