What Are You Wearing? Feeling Fifties.

Still struggling with January, but sometimes making the effort to get dressed properly really helps with those January blues.

Working from home the temptation when it’s cold and miserable is to spend the whole day in your most comfy clothes, or worse, pyjamas. It’s fun at first, but after a while it’s a sure fire short cut to a bad case of the miseries.

I bought this skirt from a charity shop last year, but I actually haven’t worn it yet. I normally struggle to get pencil skirts that fit on my hips and waist, but this ones a perfect fit and it has pockets. Perfection.

❤ Jumper - River Island circa 2001 ❤ Pencil Skirt - Vintage via Charity Shop ❤
❤ Belt - vintage ❤ Shoes - Bertie via eBay ❤Stockings - What Katie Did 3 for £10

The skirt is a fine black and white dog tooth check, which feels a bit fifties, so I teamed it with some fifties curls and an off the shoulder jumper. A beret, polo neck and flat pumps would give it a beatnik feel, but me and flats don’t get on very well generally.

Of course the fact that a bit of watery sun appears to be attempting to peer through the clouds today makes it a little easier as well. I hope it keeps it up.

A bit of red lipstick is another guaranteed way to perk yourself up. I’m wearing the Besame Red again in these pictures, don’t forget that I’ve got 10 Besame lipsticks to giveaway, but it ends tomorrow so don’t miss out!

All I need now is somewhere nice to go where they’ll appreciate my nice outfit.

Love your new skirt. I too have a terrible time finding pencil skirts to fit. I’ve decided to give up and try sewing them to fit me, but haven’t had time yet. Anyway I’m so glad Fashion Limbo introduced me to your blog. I’m looking forward to reading it.

    Love,

It is indeed difficult to find perfect fitting pencil skirts, so congrats. That one is also otherwise very goodlooking! (And I love your hair)…

A pencil skirt! That is what is missing from my wardrobe. I used to live in my old one until it disappeared (not going to blame my best mate at all). Thanks for inspiring me, it looks fab.

I love a good pencil skirt, too! Just so darn sexy! You look great, as always!

That skirt looks amazing on you. Fit is so important and it fits you perfectly.
I’m also a blogger so thanks for the kick in the butt about dressing for work even when it’s at home. I’m sitting here in my trackies because I was going to go for a run but now it’s snowing so no run. Tomorrow I dress for work!

love the skirt. It looks fab, very flattering indeed.Good pencil skirts are hard to come by! x

Looks fab and agree tough when you work from home and it’s cold, but you’re so right it does lead to a kind of blue feeling and you really don’t feel good about yourself.

I’m the same as you with hip to waist difference, but even more so bust to waist, I’ve had problems all my life even with vintage stuff that’s how I started sewing even vintage things were too big on the waist all the time, now I can make my own skirts which fit like a dream :o)

I really struggle to dress up in winter, and yes also being full time at home it ends up being more misery than happiness. Hopefully the weather will improve some time soon and I can drag myself out of the horrid winter blues. Love the vintage skirt by the way, it’s so hard to find nice skirts with proper pockets!

I have the same problem with skirts, and thinking about it my best fitting one is vintage.
It looks absolutely gorgeous on you, especially with those darling heels.

I know what you mean – I work from home, and in the winter it can be such a struggle to motivate myself to wear something other than jeans and a sweater, even altough I know I’ll feel better if I actually make an effort.

I absolutely love this outfit on you: pencil skirts and sweaters are one of my favourite looks, and the neckline of your top is just perfect 🙂

Great outfit! You’re so right about the sartorial risks of being at home- I don’t work from home but over Xmas I started to turn into the Michelin woman, wrapping myself in ever more layers of anything fuzzy and soft! And it does seem to make me tired and groggy too! Bizarre.

I struggle with pencil skirts too. The waist always seems to bag if it fits at the hips/bum. I have 3 faves now that DO fit, luckily.

That’s the problem I have! It’s because I have an 11″ difference between my waist and hip measurement and the average modern difference is 7″, so things cut to a modern pattern are either too small on the hip or too big on the waist.

Lovely skirt, great find! I also have trouble finding well fitting pencil skirts.
