Despite those stats I’m not actually chalking May up as a total disaster. It was my birthday in May, and I may have pigged out a little (a lot) and at one point my weight went all the way back up to 11 stone 10lb. Which was not a good thing. Then I was away for a week in Rotterdam at a conference. I actually went running once during that time, I intended to do more but time just didn’t allow as it was pretty full on, there was a lot of socialising and Dutch food is pretty globally deep fried in bread crumbs, but I still managed to come home a pound lighter than I left, and in the last couple of weeks I’ve managed to get my eating back under control and lose more weight, turning what could have been a 5.5lb gain into a 2.5lb gain.
It’s not all about weight either, the number on the scales can be deceptive as we gain and lose muscle and water. If I want to lose that 1.5lb I should probably just go for a run and not drink anything before I get on the scales. I want to look and feel good about myself. I could tell I was starting to look bloated and unhealthy again, I could see it in photos. A couple of weeks of eating normally again and upping my fluid intake has made all the difference and despite having gained a little I’m starting June with a waist measurement smaller than it was at the start of the month.
Anyway, that’s enough wittering. A week in Rotterdam kind of tramped all over a lot of my running goals and my goal to finish the 30 Day Shred, though I did run in Rotterdam.
I finished level one, and did one session of level 2 before I went away. I’m going to give it another go, but probably slightly less intensely as I want to focus on my running now as I have a half marathon to prepare for *gulp*
This month I managed 21.4 miles with an average run distance of 3.5 miles. You can see on my graph the week I was away, the other gap at the end of the month was in the Peak District for a wedding. I meant to go for a run, but instead got roped into wrapping hops around a marquee, that’s exercise, right?
Also, I have, for some reason, signed up for Juneathon. For some reason I think it will be easier than it was in snowy January. We shall see. The plan is to run a mile a day, with some longer runs of at least 4 miles interspersed, hopefully twice a week.
This morning I did a mile and a bit and totally neglected to take feet and face photos like I did for Janathon. I’ll try and remember to do them the rest of the month, but instead I’ll show you my run graph and a picture of my new totally rock n roll running outfit which was actually taken yesterday. The top is this one from Asics, the capris Nike, though I’ve actually had them a while and the trainers freebies from New Balance after I went to their press day.
