Goodness me it’s been a long week.
I sat down and thought, what did I do this week? And when I realised that my MRI was on Monday I could have sworn it was weeks ago already.
I swear sunny days have more hours in them than chilly, grey days, and summertime moves slower than autumn time.
Currently I am sat in my house with the curtains drawn, windows open and a fan on full, because it is HOT. I feel like I want to go out and do something exciting, but I don’t know what, and I don’t have any money and anyway, it’s far too hot, so to be honest my days plans probably involve reading that pile of still wrapped magazines I haven’t had time to get to and drinking cups of tea, there are worse ways to spend a day.
Obviously I don’t need to tell you what I did last Sunday. If you’re interested in that you can find an hour by hour breakdown here, so lets start with Monday, because this week I….
Had an MRI
And I had to get up stupidly early for it too. I had to be at the hospital for just after 7am, which meant leaving the house at 6:45am and setting my alarm for before 6, which is a time of day I do not enjoy seeing, even in Summer.
I was tired and I was a little nervous.
I’m not claustrophobic, but I am cleithrophobic. This is a fancy name for a fear of being trapped. I hate being strapped into fairground rides, though some are worse than others and I specifically hate going head first into holes or tunnels in case I get stuck (there was whole traumatic childhood experience with a climbing frame). Fortunately I could go into the MRI feet first.
They told me that if I tilted my head back I would be able to see some ceiling tiles, but I quickly decided that was way worse and just kept my eyes shut and focused on my breathing for the 25 minutes I was in there.
I was quite proud of myself for making it through without pressing the panic button. Despite the fact that hundreds of people every day presumably manage it too, but hey, small victories. I didn’t get a sticker and a certificate though.
I don’t know the results yet, but I do know that early mornings don’t suit me and I mostly spent the rest of Monday staring vacantly into space.
Other than that my big takeaway was that my belly button looks REALLY weird without the belly button ring that’s been in it since I was 14.
Smashed my phone
On Tuesday I went for a run. I took my phone out of its normal case and put it in a running armband. Once I’d finished my run I was walking back to the car with the armband hung casually by my side, and my phone slid out of the top that I had failed to properly fasten and smashed the screen.
I looked up screen repairs and discovered Apple only charged £25, so I booked an appointment to get it fixed. Then, prompted by a friend, I discovered that was only if you had Apple Care and that actually they charged £156.
So I laughed, cancelled the appointment, bought a stick on protector to stop me getting shards of glass in my finger and resigned myself to having a broken screen until I can upgrade.
In 2020…..
Went to the Theatre
On Wednesday my friend had press tickets to go and see Shrek the Musical, and she invited me to tag along with her.
I didn’t really know what to expect. There were a lot of children there and I wondered whether it would be too childish, but actually it was awesome!
The costumes were amazing, and there was a lot of grown-up humour in it. Lord Farquaad had by far the best lines, though I was also pretty fond of Princess Fiona dancing with rats and the TOTALLY amazing dragon puppet.
I would recommend it, it’s currently on at the Norwich Theatre Royal until 8th July.
Went to the Pub
I put on a nice frock and everything. Going to the pub isn’t *that* much of a rarity, but these days we tend to go to one of the pubs near us that lets dogs in, and I’m generally wearing dog walking clothes.
It felt like an absolute age since I made an effort to put on a nice frock to go into town but we had CAMRA vouchers that gave us 50p off a pint that expired on Saturday night, so we decided to really push the boat out and hit our nearest Wetherspoons like the rock n roll harcore badasses we are.
We were home again by 11pm watching Drag Race in our pyjamas, so it wasn’t exactly a night of hedonism, but it was definitely a highlight of my week.
And that was another (very long) week in my life.
How was your week?
