Dita von Teese might not be an original choice as a style icon, but she’s what I’ve always secretly wished I was.
In my head I’ve always longed to be a polished lady. I’d love to wear a hat and gloves and go to bed wearing curlers so that I wake up with a perfectly polished set hair do. I imagine myself with cut glass perfume atomisers and marabou heels.
In reality of course my nails are chipped, my hair could do with a brush and I’m currently wearing jeans with a hole in them (no outfit pic today!), but Dita von Teese makes me think that maybe one day I WILL be that glamorous
I’m not sure how often she wears vintage anymore these days with all the worlds designers at her fingertips, but she has the ability to make the most modern gown look vintage
Like most of my Style Icons she doesn’t always get it right, this knee high boots and corset combo makes her look like she might be about to go into surgery, but it’s the experimentation with clothes and fashion that is the theme that runs through many of my Style Icons. A love of dressing up, whatever anyone else may think, which, speaking as someone who’s sister got into a fight defending my right to wear over the knee socks with sheer tights and a lycra mini when I was 13, I can really relate to.
You can follow @DitaVonTeese on Twitter to add a bit of glamour to your stream, she recently tweeted this stunning photograph of her in Cannes in a Marc Jacobs dress
She also conducted an interview with EcoStiletto about her love of Vintage back in April.
So Dita von Teese, you are my Style Icon, and I can only dream that one day I’ll be that polished perfect, yet secretly saucy, lady.
