This months Ethical Design Spotlight is on LA based label Kristinit .
Kristinit is available in selected US boutiques and online, but sadly doesn’t seem to be available in the UK, but since Retro Chick has a fair portion of of readers based in the US and Canada I thought it was worth a mention.
I was really impressed with her ethical credentials, the label uses innovative organic fabrics, fair trade practices and manufactures locally in Los Angeles, minimising pollution and supporting the local economy. Founder Kristina Lenss says she has always designed “with more than just style in mind”.
I’ve recently been sent details of the stunning Fall 2009 collection, or the “Love Campaign” as it’s called, designed in conjunction with Zoe Melo.
CAMPAIGN
The line uses Fair Trade lace from Brazil, organic cotton and silk and cupro to create stunning elegant designs with feminine detailing.
I love the lace cameo detail at the neckline of this elegant dress.
And the feeling of louche 1930s decadence to the beautiful silk fabric and design and of this top and dress
As well as using sustainable fabrics and production methods Kristinit also donates a percentage of every sale to the Pachamama Alliance that aims to help preserve the tropical rainforests by empowering the indigenous people and 1% for the planet that donates to environmental organizations worldwide.
If you are based in the US or Canada, or you know someone who’ll send you lovely things, it’s worth checking out the sample sale section of the website for some delicious bargains!
