My Secret Girl Crush

I am ashamed to admit it, but I have developed a bit of a girl crush on Emma Watson.

When everyone started making such a fuss about how stylish she was I thought “Yeah, yeah, earning lots of money buys a lot of fancy frocks” (not that I’m jealous or bitter you understand…)

Then I saw the ad shots for Burberry. And I thought, “hmmm, she looks good, but then, I’d look good if Burberry dressed me and Mario Testino took my photo” (maybe not AS good, but, you know, still good)

Then there were premieres and parties and at all of them she DOES look stunning. And she doesn’t look stunning in that irritating starlet kind of a way, she looks groomed and stylish, but with a quirky fashion edge. Her hair and make up is never overdone and she looks, well, English, I think.

I find her an infuriating girl crush to have developed, as at only 19, she seems to have a poise and confidence in her looks and her style that I wish I’d had at 19, hell, I wish I had it now.

I think the final seal on my girl crush was when she turned up at the Harry Potter premiere in this heart breakingly gorgeous feminine and floaty vintage Ossie Clark dress.

2 days later she turned up in New York in a leather Proenza Schouler dress and I knew it was time to give in and admit she knew what she was doing in the wardrobe department.

She’s making interesting choices, like the pink brogues she wore to the Letterman show with a polka dot dress, but mostly they seem to work.

There are also rumours currently circulating that Emma Watson is intending to create her own fashion line for teenagers and donate all the proceeds to UNICEF. This rumour came from the News of the World, making it about as reliable as a chocolate teapot (sorry NOTW) and Emma seems to scotch this rumour herself telling WWD

“Iā€™m really not interested in doing it for my own ego. Iā€™m not a designer. If someone asked me to do something that was beneficial to a cause, then maybe Iā€™d consider it, but not just [to be able to say] ā€˜Look at me! Iā€™ve got my own line!”

but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility seeing as she recently told American Teen Vogue that she doesn’t plan to continue with acting unless something came along she felt strongly about.

There’s still 2 Harry Potter films to come (the last book, I believe is being filmed in 2 parts) but after that I shall be interested to see what she does. At the moment Emma Watson can do no wrong and seems to be becoming the darling of the fashion industry, and after much resistance, I think I love her too.

I was just reading yesterday how she’s been pursuing modeling not just because she loves fashion, but because it’s a great way to diversify herself and her image–particularly if she does want to be considered for films. Showing the public she’s not just Hermione is a great way to build her career.

I think that’s great, when you’ve done something like Harry Potter and been a “child star” the transition to being a grown up in the public eye can be really problematic, but she seems to be managing it quite well.
