Zooey Deschanel was cute as Trillian in Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, but I first fell properly in love with her in Yes Man. She’s just so damn cute and kooky without all that unnecessary boho frippery that so often passes for kookiness. I think I actually want to BE her.
Boy mets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesnāt.
I just can’t wait till I can get to her latest kooky rom-com offering (500) Days of Summer. Unfortunately I never managed to make it to a preview screening (curse my nomadic and provincial existence) but I can’t wait to get to the cinema to see it.
From a purely academic point of view I’m interested in it’s apparent challenging of the boundaries of the conventional romantic comedy. Personally, I’ve seen pictures of the pretty frocks and I REALLY want to go and take some inspiration.
If you haven’t seen the trailer already, then here’s some eye candy
There’s the adorable cute vintagey dresses and skirts
And some slightly more masculine looks.
Then there’s her hair.
I love that slightly tousled, messy, look. And if I could figure out how to make my hair do this I’d be very happy.
Off screen I am loving the gorgeous Naeem Khan Resort 2010 navy dress with puffed sleeves she wore to the LA premiere with baby blue Louboutins. Quirky, but still grown up.
And I love the skirt shapeĀ on this Erin Fetherstone dress she wore to the Yes Man premiere last December with glittery tights. Very Ice Queen.
So Zooey Deschanel makes her way into the Retro Chick archives as a style icon for her chic, but quirky cool, and I add, sadly, add yet another girl crush to my growing collection of minor obsessions.
