Can You Go Out In Your Dressing Gown?

All the way back at the end of November Idiosyncratic Style wrote a post called Fashion Dare: Pajama Possibilities. I included it in my Links à la Mode round up that week and I also though “hmmm”

Hanging on the back of my bedroom door for about 3 years has been a beautiful printed satin kimono wrap. I rarely wear it, because it’s all slinky and pretty and most times when I want a robe I want fluffy and cosy.

But what if I belted it in?

Could my dressing gown pass for a dress?

I’m still not sure. Maybe it’s because I KNOW it’s actually a robe? I love the length and the dramatic sleeves but I still might just feel like I’m going out in my dressing gown.

What do you think? Should it make it’s way into my Christmas Party wardrobe or go back on the hook on the back of my bedroom door?

That is such a gorgeous robe! I would layer it with other pieces like a skirt and maybe a cami. For the office a blouse perhaps and a vest over it THEN belt it?

Um I’d totally comment on how cool your dress was if I saw you at a party. It’s also all about the accessories and you used some pretty darn cute ones!

Wear it out – it’s fantastic. I was wondering if I was the only one who thought it was acceptable to wear pretty robes like this outside the house!

    General consensus is yes then?!

Laura – I tried a few different belts, but because the robe is so printed anything too flashy competed with it too much and a wider belt made it look more structured

Eyeliah – Yes, I think it would work with barelegs and pretty sandals in the summer, but I thought because there was black in the print I quite liked it with opaques as well.

It SO can pass for a dress. I would use a flashy gold belt, though.

you completely pull it off… maybe because you know it’s a robe it feels silly, but i think it can definitly work outside the house. It is always awesome to see people being brave with fashion, has great results!
