Bora Aksu was my first show of the day after I arrived at Somerset House.
Unfortunately my camera was incredibly confused by the fact that I was sitting in the dark taking photos of a brightly lit catwalk. In my panic I couldn’t figure out how to fix it (I have now, fact fans, turn down the exposure.) and in consequence every photo I took came out like this.
It’s kind of a cool effect, but not exactly what I was looking for, so any pictures used to illustrate this piece (apart from that one) will be courtesy of elle.com and iMAXTREE.
The collection featured a lot of feminine short tulip shaped dresses and skirts in pale pastel shades of grey, blue, peach and pink, worn over distressed leggings.
I loved the twisted piping detail and the chiffon ruching which reminded me of those pictures you used to make at school with bits of screwed up tissue paper. Maybe I’ll try embellishing my clothes with tissue paper, in a “get the look” kind of way, but I don’t think it will wash well…
These actually seemed like the kind of dresses I’d be quite keen to pull out right now for Spring Summer (sans distressed leggings) but later on there were a few similar dresses in bronze and black, a nod to more traditional autumn winter colours.
One of my favourite looks from the show, however, was the a more masculine look with a tailored jacket and loose metallic harem pants. It had a bit of a 1940s vibe when teamed with the tailored shirt and minimalist make up, but with an up to date twist using metallic fabrics and modern shapes.
