The Day the Sun Shone.

Today the sky is grey and boring, but yesterday it was a beautiful clear blue.

It was also freeeeeezing. So sunglasses and my massive furry coat were the order of the day. A combination that always makes me feel a little bit movie star.

I also layered up, adding warmth by wearing a black pinafore dress over a fine knit polo neck and tights, as you can see in the smaller picture.

We set off intending to go on a Boot Fair Hunt, except it turned out that the Boot Fair wasn’t on, so we impulsively headed off to Great Yarmouth to visit the sea side. That’s Scroby Sands Wind Farm in the background. Wind farms get complained about a lot, but I actually think they’re quite beautiful, especially when the sky is so blue and clear. Plus, you know, it seems kind of churlish to complain about the ugliness of wind farms considering how notoriously attractive a traditional fossil fuel power station is….

We wandered along the beach and admired the kind of brightly coloured random things you only ever see in seaside shops.

We stopped for a cup of tea and a cooked breakfast in a cafe to warm up and then headed home again.

It’s lovely to do something completely unplanned and completely pointless occasionally. I love the sea side in winter when it’s nearly empty and half the shops are shut. I was only slightly disappointed that I wasn’t able to buy a stick of rock to take home.

What did you do this weekend?

What a fun day! It’s still sunny here in Kent but SO cold.

We went to see Alice in Wonderland at the weekend! OMG I am now even MORE in love with Johnny Depp than I was before. The whole film is just gorgeous.

I was on a mission to sell some antique books at the weekend so I dragged my husband and children round Chester city walls in search of a book shop that I’d spoken to on the phone. After a successful transaction (fifty quid in hand and space on my bookshelf), we found the inside market and treated our wee ones to old fashioned sweets.

I love doing something completely unexpected. Lately, we haven’t been doing much of anything because of the cold winter weather, but the sun is starting to peak out a bit, so I can’t wait to start going on more weekend adventures :o)

    I am a beach baby.

I love everything about summer at the coast.

But, my heart loves empty winter beaches just as much.
It is so isolated, so crisp.
Also sunsets seem more peaceful and delicate here in the winter.

Aimless days have a special romance about them too šŸ™‚

Totally jealous – that looks lovely.Nice pics, Gemma. What is it about the seaside that’s so strange and romantic? About to write my first ever ‘what I did this weekend’ post, mostly about seeing my friend’s band and drinking cups of tea.

Especially in the winter when it’s deserted. I could sit by the sea for hours.

I shall pop over and see your weekend post. The best thing about blogs is nosing into other peoples lives!

I agree that unplanned events are the best. No expectations and just go with the flow!
