Retro Chick Competitions

GIVEAWAY: Happy Blogaversary to Me…And Pressies for You!

Today Retro Chick the blog is TWO YEARS OLD!

Yes, that’s right. A whole 2 years of my meandering ramblings. To celebrate I insist every single one of you eats some cake today.

I’ve met some amazing people through the blog, both in real life and through chatting online, and I’d love to buy you all a cake.

Sadly I can’t.

In fact there’s a distinct possibility I might not even be able to buy MYSELF cake. I might, however, be able to help a couple of you buy something pretty to help celebrate.

VoucherCodes.co.uk has kindly offered to sponsor a little giveaway for my birthday. I have 2 x £25 gift vouchers for ASOS to giveaway to 2 lucky winners. They offered me the choice of picking another prize for you, but I thought it would be nice to give you the chance to pick your own for once!

If you haven’t already then vouchercodes.co.uk is worth a peek if you’re shopping online. I do occasionally find that the discount codes they list aren’t “codes” as such, but rather promotions the site is running, such as free delivery, that you get automatically. It’s great when you find you can get 20% off though! As well as ASOS they also have La Redoute discount codes and New Look discount codes on the site, amongst many, many others.

I remember ASOS in the early 00s when it was As Seen On Screen and you could shop by “celebrity” and buy the items, or similar, that you’d seen them wearing. It was one of my absolute favourite sites and it’s good to see it grow up and out into an amazing online shopping mall. In case you need inspiration for what you could spend your prize on I’ve helpfully spent my afternoon repeatedly spending a virtual £25 on ASOS.

Completely altrusitic you understand, not just an excuse for some virtual shopping….

The Lady Like Vixen

For just £23 you can treat yourself to some back seamed tights, lace gloves, and elegant vintage style drop earrings. Just add your LBD to look like a proper lady.

Lady Like - ASOS £23

Retro Queen

£24 will update your Summer wardrobe with a retro turban style headband, tortoiseshell shades and a skinny belt.

Glamour Puss

£23 will buy you sultry smoky eyes, deep purple nails and some deeply glamourous jewellery to match.

Girly Chic

£24 will update your Spring wardrobe with some of those candy colours we’ve been hearing so much about. A cute pair of pumps and a pearl embellished hair band.

HOW DO I WIN?

Inspired?

Well if you want to enter then just leave a comment on this post and tell me your favourite birthday or anniversary stories.

Did you throw someone an amazing party? Did you get a bike for your 5th birthday, or a pair of Jimmy Choos on your 30th? Maybe you had an amazing hand made cake or got whisked off to Paris? Whatever the story I want to hear it!

The Competition will run for 2 weeks, closing at midnight GMT Friday 30th April
International entries are welcome, but don't forget you'll pay extra shipping on ASOS!
Winners will be selected at random from all qualifying entries and notified by email
Full Terms and Conditions can be found at http://www.vouchercodes.co.uk/competitions

My fav party memory is my daughters 4th party, at home in our garden – it was raining in the am but by the time the kiddies arrived it was sunny:)
It was pirate themed & all the kiddies were in fancy dress & my little girl screamed with excitement everytime a new friend arrived!
We had a blow up pirate ship, treasure hunt & best of all no fallings out!!

    Happy Blogversary RetroChick!

My favourite party would have to be my Granddad’s 80th. That is the only OAPs party I know to have had a bouncy castle! He did actually go on it too much to the amusement of my little cousins who were shouting ‘take off your shoes’… and the adults saying ‘give me your beer’ haha

He and my Gran are celebrating their diamond anniversary at the beginning of June so I’m keeping my fingers crossed the bouncy castle makes another appearance! The £25 would certainly come in handy to find a top to wear!

its my birthday in 2 weeks so lets hope i have some thing fabulous to report then! nothing spectacular to report on previous occasions.

My most memorable birthday took place in Australia. I was living there for a year and I was travelling around with my boyfriend of the time.

For my birthday we were in Western Australia and we booked an Adventure Day. This saw me abseiling, rock climbing and then, the highlight of the day – A STAR JUMP – jumping off a cliff (goodness knows how many feet high)! WOW! – of course I had to go first because it was my birthday!

    What a memory!

Last week I celebrated my sisters birthday, she knew we were going out for a meal, what she didn’t know was that I’d set up a treasure hunt ‘spy mission’ for her round town first. It involved a (female) friend of mine in a fake moustache sneaking up on her in the train station, visiting various offices and having strangers read her riddles, and reading notices placed in newsagents windows. I thought it was funny and she seemed to enjoy it 🙂

When I was 21 I went and had a few games of bowling with my work colleagues and afterwards we had a fantastic Italian meal and were joined by my sister. At the end of the meal a cake was brought out to me (my sister had organised it) and I felt so spoiled and loved. I really enjoyed myself and will never forget it.

My favourite birthday was my 21st, my partner and I went on holiday to the Dominican Republic where he proposed making it a very memorable birthday!

best birthday EVER was when my bf surprised me and all my friends showed up 😀 that year he also gave me a glass heart necklace with gold flakes floating inside 😀

My favourite birthday present was my 20th. My dad organised for me to fly to London to see my team play. That was amazing in itself but he happened to know one of the players who was from belfast and he organised throgh him for me to meet both teams after the match and we all had a few drinks.

I know this isnt every girls dream but me being a tomboy i felt like i had died and gone to heaven. I can still recall the day in every little detail and have kept the birthday card which they all signed

For my second wedding anniversary my hubby and I had a blissful 2 nights away at a very posh hotel/ spa in the New Forest. It was special because we hadn’t done very much for our first anniversary as I had been very pregnant and had not felt terribly sexy 😉 It was our first break away from our beautiful baby and it was just so nice to be alone together for a few days!

    Happy Birthday xx

For my eighteenth my parents went all out. We rented the Miners Welfare Hall and threw a 1960’s happening themed bash. My dad was good enough to DJ with a pink floyd shirt and a carnaby street sign and my mum did the catering whilst wearing a hippy outfit with her massive CND necklace.

In a homage to Andy Warhol’s exploding plastic inevitable we projected films onto the ceiling and the best moment was when Dr Strangelove was on and everyone was craning their necks to watch Slim Pickins ride the bomb. As soon as it dropped everyone cheered.

We ended the night with Stairway to heaven and some of my closest friends all said the adlibs from the video not realising the others were doing it as well. It was one of those moments when you look around and think “i love these people”.

Great people, great night and truly excellent music.

My favourite birthdays are my childrens. My fondest memories are seeing there eyes light up when they open their presents and my brother usually makes a fantastic cake from scratch which puts my culinary skills to shame! x

My fave birthday story is when I threw a surprise for hubby, it wasn’t a party as he had said he didn’t want one, he had said just a few nibbles at home with me would suit him fine. So I kept him out of the kitchen while i prepared him a surprise treat of nibbles, but I also snuck in his parents and his brother and sister through the back door. I then called him through to see his special lunch and they shouted surprise – the look on his face was priceless and I have no idea how he stopped himself swearing, my family then joined us and we had the best no-party party!

I hadn’t asked for anything in particular for my 14th birthday, but 4 different people (who didn’t know each other) bought me the exact same 2 presents, a pair of gold etched heart earrings and a red brooch! Very random presents as I had asked for neither, but they all bought them for me! Very strange!!

My favourite anniversary was when I bought my boyfriend the present of zorbing which we had never done before and we incorporated it into our summer holiday to Dorset. It was amazing.

two years ago when my then fiancee (now husband) and i decided to go to okracoke island (a tiny little place off the coast of North Carolina) for my birthday weekend. we stayed in a lovely suite for the night, got to drive on the beach and had a lovely time as we were the only tourists since it’s a beach town and it was dead in the middle of a cold february. we had a blast!! happy birthday retro chick!!

I wanted to be somewhere that wasn’t the UK for my 30th birthday and as I worked in travel I used to get some really good deals. Me and my other half ended up going to Borneo and we went to an Orangutan sanctuary – it was amazing to see them in their natural habitat and made a truly special and memorable birthday.

Last June was my 30th birthday… it came in the middle of travelling in South America. I spent the day sandboarding, scrambling up sand dunes in Peru, and riding on a crazy fast dune buggy!

My Favourite Birthday memory is going to Benihana’s teppanyaki restaurant for my 21st birthday with all my friends, it was fun to watch your food being cooked right in front of you and thrown at you too! lol fancy a ball of egg fried rice bouncing off your nose?

My most memorable birthday was actually the least extravagant! I was 18 and had some nice gifts etc due to it being my 18th, but i was really down at the time and felt like nobody cared about me (i had a pretty tough early life). Anyway it was just like every other day for me, and i was around my cousins house (and also my bestfriend) during the day and when it came to early evening it clicked to me that everyone was rushing around getting ready for something, so i asked my cousin what was going on, well she is no good at keeping secrets and wanted me to cheer up fast and told me, my grandma (who raised me from 6 years old) had organised a suprise party for me at home and invited the family! It really made my day and the added bonus that i secretly knew so could get myself ready for the cameras when i walked in!! My family made it really special for me.xx

I guess my favourite birthday memory has to be when my two best friends and I went to this open air jazz night in a city park. We took a big picnic, and an even bigger bottle of gin, and spent the whole night dancing barefoot on the lawn. Wasn’t particularly extravagant, but it was so much fun.

Mine was my surprise 21st. Id spent the day sulking because all my friends were apparently ‘busy’, my sister wouldnt answer my phone calls and I was convinced it would be the worst 21st ever. They had put together a diversionary tactic of saying we would go in town for a few drinks so when they picked me up I was still sulking. Apparently we had to call at a local pub for (insert stupid seethrough excuse, which I was too stupid to seethrough!) and they lead me in. I didnt see the happy birthday banners, I saw my uncle and it still never clicked, they opened the door and there was EVERYONE! My work friends, old school friends, all my family. It was a-mazing!! I was ill at the time in the middle of a bad crohns disease flare up and really needed the lift. There was karaoke, buffet, a huge dance floor and vodka penis shaped jelly!! I will always, always remember it. I have the best memories (not so much of the hangover the following day) and people who have since departed who I loved so much were there. I am so thankful for my friends and family for arranging it! Me singing suspicous minds, downing vodka redbull in fits of giggles with lots of smiling faces looking at me will forever stay with me.

my favorite birthday memory was when my hubby and friends took me out to manchester on the big wheel but the vip pod for my 30th..it was brilliant especially as it was followed by a meal at a rather posh brazialian restaurant . I hope retrochick has a great brithday just like i did!!! Happy Birthday retrochick!

My daughter & my son’s for my 27th birthday held a surprise party for me considering they were all very young it was the best party I ever had or ever been to,They made everything themselves, fairy cakes,Jam sandwiches, bowls of Wotsits & sugar puffs!not forgetting the jelly & ice-cream! They had asked my mum to make me a birthday cake and they decorated it with bubble gums & smarties! They placed only 21 candle… making me feel even better!
They even had pressies for pass the parcel & had decorated the living room with balloons, popcorn on string and homemade banners!
They invited the best peeps to spend it with!their uncle the funny clown and Aunty Lisa who always has everyone in stitches!plus only people that they thought was funny along with some of their friends! The lady who made the kids laugh from down the road, the elderly man who passed wind everywhere he went!
I couldn’t have invited any better people to be around we had a fab day full of laughter that followed from happy tears when the kids sang to me ” You are my Sunshine”
So many fab memories, but many family & friends were dissapointed that they didn’t get an invite but like my children told me we wanted only happy & funny people!for your special day.

I’ve never really been up for birthday parties. But just before my 21st birthday, my mother was taken into hospital. My brother and sister were still quite young, so I rushed back from uni to keep an eye on them and check on mum.

The day of my birthday, we decided to have a party on her ward. We brought cake and balloons and sausage rolls and lots of people. It was wonderful! The nurses dropped in for cake, but sadly quite a few of the old people insisted on using their commodes during the party, leaving some interesting smells in the room.

We still laugh about it today!

For my 25th birthday my friends designed a dress for my birthday & got it made for me. The fabric is Andy Warhol’s soup cans and I wear it so much. It’s perfect for day and night and I love it. In my area I’m know as the ‘Warhol’ girl!

My favorite birthday was my 21st as we have family all over the country I hardly get to see them all – everyone made it and my nana who I hadn’t seen for 7 years. You see, birthdays aren’t all about the gifts its about the ones that money cant buy and thats my family it was the most special present I could have asked for.

My two year old baking me a chocolate cake for my 30th birthday i couldnt have asked for more and it tasted delicious, the best, well done Jesse 🙂

My now ex-husband (damn good thing too) and I got married on the anniversary of when we first met. Yeah, I know, totally sickly. But we were going to London for our honeymoon and we were both pretty skint at the time so we were due to travel down by train. What I didn’t tell him was that I’d decided we were gonna fly down (I’d flown before but he’d never been on an aircraft). I managed to hide the fact from him until about half an hour before the taxi was due to pick us up, when I simply handed him the tickets. He was totally blown away by it – now I think it’s a pity he didn’t blow further but times change. Still a good memory tho.

When I was 5, I got a red plastic guitar… which I was very pleased with and played during pass the parcel at my birthday party…. but due to my being busy with the guitar playing…my pass the parcel turn was missed.. resulting in a tantrum, and me slamming the door, and popping a balloon! See, I’ve always been a diva!

Sweet 16. Seems so long ago. I got my first car

I was travelling and out in Isreal for my 25th. I managed a Workers Hostel and everyone was skint. I had just travelled back to the hostel after a 7 hour bus ride from Tel Aviv and was not a happy bunny when a couple of big burley South African guys started hasseling me to open the fridge to sell them some beer, without even giving me time for a cuup of tea. Moaning at their selfishness I opened the fridge to see a homemade sponge cake all of about 2 inch tall, looked like it had been decorated by a 4 year old. Bless them these guys had re-wired the cooker, and made me this cake. to top the day off another friend had followed an arguing couple until the guy threw a bunch of flowers, he had been trying to get back in the good books with in the skip. Trashed Flowers and rock hard cake but the kindness behind it was priceless

I love my birthdays: I always invite friends around, cook lots of food, bake cakes and we have lots of fun and laughter!

I had a fab 40th birthday. The girls took me off for a spa day for the day. It was wonderful. We all sat around getting our nails done but best of all, we all managed to spend the whole day together without being needed by children/husband’s/partner’s. I really cherish that time.

I had a great 50th birthday party. Hired a hall and a band and partied with 200 mates..Funniest part was when they stood me near the stage and 13 of my male friends strutted in ( to the full monty music) wearing raincoats and nothing else !!! They all made a semi circle in front of me and opened the raincoats to flash !!!gulp !!!! They each had a lettered card covering their dangly bits which read HAPPY BIRTHDAY x

I have to say, my favourite birthday was my 18th. I’d say I’m a chunky lady really, so dressing up for my birthdays was always a bit of a no-no. But for my 18th, the girls surprised me with a Wonder Woman dress (this is one of the all-in-one dresses that is very low at the top, with no straps, and very high at the bottom), a cape and a headband. Suffice to say, I didn’t feel comfortable at first – mainly because all of my friends were wearing Superman, Batman & Robin outfits, and they were completely covered – but after heading out onto the town and having our pictures taken with pretty much everyone because we looked ‘Totally Cool!’ Even the local coppers had their photo taken with us! Ever since then, anytime we have a birthday bash, we dress up.

I had an ice cream cake for my sixteenth and eat it all by myself for a week. It was really good.

My best birthday was in 2008, we went all out with a table at a club, had a HUGE vip area and partied hard! I didn’t even get that drunk, I was soooo proud of my self!

One of my best birthdays was actually last summer. I live abroad, away from family and friends. so to cheer me up on such a special day my boyfriend sent me to London on the Eurostar (I live in Brussels) first class, and gave me some shopping money to spend in my favourite shopping town. I got some gorgeous shoes, a seriously sexy pencil skirt, the best cardi Ive ever bought, and some GHDs. I also enjoyed A LOT of sparkling wine on the trip home, so when my boyfriend came to pick me up he laughed at the merry state in which I was. It was a perfect day as I got to spend it with some family in London, and I had a whole day to indulge in girlie stuff. This is what my fantastic boyfriend is capable of doing for me, after 7 years of being together. 🙂

Happy Birthday to you! My favorite birthday was my twenty-second, when I host a party for my friends. I spent a lot of money for this party, so at least I didn’t have enough money to buy a bottle of Xenta’s Absenth, which I had been wanting for couple of monthes;) And then one of my friend came in the room with the bottle of this drink in his hand.. I was so happy!

    Happy Blog Birthday Miss Chick!!

My best birthday was last year. The big 3-0. Was dreading it, and life had been really weird in the run-up as well. Had planned cocktails with a few people, but some important people couldn’t make it and I had a bit of a tizz and wanted to hide under the duvet. Asked a special someone if he would like to go to the seaside with me instead.

So we went to the very strange (but interesting, in a bleak kind of way) Leigh on Sea, where we had a mini bottle of champagne on the top of a cliff, out of a single Dunkin’ Donuts cup. Then we found the only strip of sand there is there, and sat for ages just talking. Blissful.

Back in London (very sunburnt) for impromptu slap-up meal and some Pimms. Perfect!

My favorite birthday was either my 25th, when my friends threw me a huge party and about 35 people were dancing all around my living room, or this past birthday, my 28th, when my boyfriend surprised me with burberry rainboots, which I have been wanting for YEARS but couldn’t find anywhere to ship to Canada! What a guy!

Happy Birthday to you! My favorite was my twenty-second, when half my guests couldn’t make it because of a massive blizzard so the rest of us camped out in my apartment with the birthday feast and watched the snow pile up outside. The next day (which was actually my birthday) we went on a super-adventurous grocery store run for soup ingredients and holed up in a friend’s apartment. Cozy and wonderful.

    congratulations!
My birthday last week was fantastic! The theme was ‘Malice in Wonderland’ and all my friends dressed as twisted versions of wonderland characters! I was the Queen of Hearts and wore a corset dress and shoes with giant red hearts stuck on them, and I decorated a mini top hat with mesh and roses, and I wore heart jewellery and carried a decapitated flamingo around with me. My best friend was Alice and we made her look as if I had declared ‘awwwffff with her head!’
It was a fantastic night and the costumes were just brilliant!!!

My 50th birthday was the best (so far)my three children saved up and bought me and my husband a day trip on The Orient Express – I had always wanted to go on it since seeing Peter Ustinov playing Poriot in Murder on the Orient Express – we dressed smartly took the train to London and then boarded the beautiful Pullman – the whole expereince from start to end (three course lunch, and then afternoon tea) was magical.

My favorite birthday party memory is when we threw a surprise one for my dad’s 55th. He has never been surprised in his life, and when he saw us all sitting there in his favorite restaurant, I though he was going to fall over from happiness. I even saw tears!

Aah, I remember my most favourite birthday like it was yesterday!! My Dad was always away on business and since my birthday is in November, he would rarely come visit that day as he’d be home for 3 weeks during Christmas time- and although my birthdays weren’t all that lonely (my Mum did a lot to keep us happy while Dad was away!), a part of me always felt disappointment that my Dad was never around to celebrate with us. But there was one birthday in particular when he surprised me and I can honestly say that was THE best day- it really made my year!! It was the day I turned 9 and he had even rang me that morning wishing me and telling me yet again just how sorry he was that he couldn’t make it- little did I know he had a little trip planned! It was a really amazing day, he turned up in time for my birthday party with a gorgeous silver charm bracelet and a BIG chocolate cake (my favourite!)- then, once everyone had gone home, he took me for a ride and we had ice-cream 🙂 yes, more sugar! haha it was definitely my favourite birthday 🙂 xx

my b/day is xmas day so i never get a birthday card (sept from the kids) so the best time must have been when i was in hospital over xmas and had loads from everyone (selfish i know) but b/days and xmas is for kids 🙂

Think my sister may have already mentioned it but I remember my 7th birthday when one of our Uncles gifted us our very first bike!! I was incredibly excited but also remembering falling over quite a few times when learning to properly ride it and crying- a LOT! I even have a big scar on my knee that reminds me of those days- worth every minute though- I know cycle to worth and it’s really toned my legs! obviously not with the same bike hehe but I’ll always remember that birthday in particular when I overcame a certain obstacle <3

My last birthday (23rd) was pretty amazing. Two of my very best friends and I returned to Winchester town where we went to uni for a weekend. We went out in our old haunts, and the next day I did my first ever craft fair! Then we drove back to my Mum’s house for a roast, and spend the next day at Thorpe Park. It was totally exhausting, but so much fun. It made me realise how lucky I am to have such amazing friends and handmade love in my life!

    Happy birthday, Retro Chick!

My favourite Birthday was my 7th birthday when my Mum and Dad bought me my very own desk and chair. Perfect for me then as I was always writing and drawing. That was a 20 years ago and I still have the chair!!

Happy 2nd Anniversary! We pretty much share the same one. Hmm…well, my most memorable birthdays certainly haven’t been in recent years and I forgot my 5th wedding anniversary in February because I was at fashion week (not a great excuse but I was forgiven). But I think my 27th birthday when still in Canada with my brother and his friends getting a bit (ok, really) stupid and ending with a swim in Lake Ontario was probably the most fun. One of my last ridiculously indulgent nights when single without children.

Favourite birthday was my 30th when my other half Steve surprised me with a ride in a stretch limo, which I’d always wanted to do.

Most horrible birthday was when I was about to turn 13 and had to spend in hospital having a operation for scoliosis, which is a curvture of the spine. Mind you I got some pretty good presents that year!

My 21st birthday was amazing and has gone down as one of the best weekend’s in history.
The Friday night I was out and about with the girl’s from Uni – wearing a sash and drinking terribly strong vodka – my over riding memory of the evening seemed to be queuing for the toilets and drunkenly telling my mate how much I loved her.
The following morning I hopped a train to Sheffield and as I arrived at my best friend’s house she’d put a great big Happy Birthday message in the window that could be seen down the street. We went out for dinner, the whole restaurant sang happy birthday and I had a cake and everything. They guys had all chipped in to buy me a really cool camera. We chilled out and then went to an early hours club in the morning and danced till mid afternoon.
It was amazing – and I couldn’t do it now!

    Happy Blog Birthday 😀

Hmm, mine was neither a birthday nor anniversary present as such, but a combination of birthday/christmas and 3 year anniversary. MY gorgeous boyfriend and my Dad, paid for me and Mum to go back to Australia for 6 weeks. Mum was born there and the last time I had gone was to say goodbye to my nana, when she died in a road accident. So, 15 years later in 2008, I got to go back. I got to relive memories I’d made with her and make new ones, to cherish. I got to hold a baby possum, Koalas, and ate so much sushi it was divine! I stopped at Singapore on the way home and spent 4 days in bliss.

It meant so so much that thought had been put into it. Dad and boyshape spent 6 months saving, paying for all of it. It is something I will never forget…

Happy birthday Gemma! & I LOVE your idea for a comp, so lovely 🙂

This February was my first anniversary with my boyfriend. We have a long and chequered history as friends/lovers before, and although I’ve had two anniversaries with two different boys before, by that point both relationships were pretty much over so I was so excited to celebrate with the person I think I’m meant to be with.

He’d booked us a weekend in Morocco (it was for my birthday too!) and we had to get up at 4am to make our 6.30am flight. When we got to the airport, a very, very nervous lady lost her passport between the security and the plane, so we had a delayed take-off. Then fog above Morocco meant we had to divert to Agadir. Having only Marrakech guidebooks, we didn’t know where Agadir was, but we soon discovered it was a five hour bus ride away! With no loo breaks, no food, or drink.. By now, we were both a bit stressed. My boyfriend had booked a taxi from the airport to our riad to make things easy, but although we kept phoning to cancel our booking, nobody answered.

Finally, the bus dumped us in Marrakech, in the middle of nowhere. We had no cash, so with our bags we traipsed to a cashpoint. Then we took an overcharged cab into town but the driver got lost and eventually demanded we pay double the fee we’d agreed. He then dropped us in an area we didn’t recognise, and a young friend of his started grabbing our bags.

The ‘friend’ walked us to our riad, but not before intimidating us into handing over more cash. It was dark by now, and we hadn’t stopped moving since 4am. The lady at our riad couldn’t believe we hadn’t pre-booked a restaurant, and found us somewhere amazing for dinner. But no roads are labelled in the main market in Marrakech, and we got lost again, and again, and again. When we got to the restaurant, we were the scruffiest people there by miles.

When we were seated by a very formal gent in a jellaba, we both got the giggles. They turned into hysterical laughter at how the mini-break was turning out, and it was at that moment that I felt it was one of the best days of my life. True romance in the worst possible circumstances!

Ahhh, it’s making me feel very sentimental…. Sarah x

My favourite birthday memory is from when I was four. I was given a male guinea pig, who promptly gave birth to two babies! Mum Snowy and babies Jenny and Frisky set off a lifelong love of these little creatures, and now, 30 years later, I spend a fortune on rescuing and caring for abandoned and abused ones. At this very minute, I have one sitting in front of me being syringe fed as his previous owners didn’t give him hay and he is suffering from malocclusion. (overgrown teeth).

Some people think it’s a bit sad to love these little creatures so much, but they are such entertaining little things!

Happy Birthday to you, Bonne Anniversaire, Buon Compleanno etc etc!!

My best birthday was when I was 11 and got a Raleigh Chopper – I had waited for this for sooooo long and it was the thing I wanted most (apart from a pony!). Of course I nearly had several fatal accidents thanks to the ridiculously long handlebars but it looked so cool. 😉

My favourite birthday was 2 years ago. It was the first birthday I shared with my new, adoptive daughter. I also realised she had been born on the worst birthday I’d had when I was ill in bed with a severe chest infection and had to have an ambulance come to the house.

    Aw! Happy Birthday 🙂

My favourite birthday, was the one just gone (last week in fact!). Was feeling pretty fed up about reaching my ‘late thirties’, but my lovely man treated me like a princess! Had lovely day on my actual brthday with him and our daughter. Glorious sunshine and we went to the farm. Then Granny stepped in on Saturday, while he wisked me to a posh country house hotel, for massage, facial, dip in the pool and all round pampering! I’m so lucky 🙂

Firstly Happy Birthday, my best birthday was my 26th birthday when my girls decided to take me out for the night, we had a chinese banquet then went on to a club and that is where I met my hubby, there was an instant spark between us and its still there now.

    Happy Blog Birthday!

My last birthday was one of the best, because my parents made me a huuge surprise tiered birthday cake that was covered in melted marshmallow instead of icing and was covered in hundreds of sweets and lollies and cute animal-shaped candles. I felt like a kid again, which is of course an amazing feeling!

I always remember our first Anniversary. “There are things that money cant buy” many says, and that is true. For me it doesn’t matter how much you spend on your anniversary but it always matter how much you prepare for it to make it special and how will you make this moment remembered for the rest of your life

Happy blog anniversary! Congratulations are in order – yes, eat cake! You need the energy for keeping up with it all!

I’ve no special stories to share but just to say that I love birthdays – especially mine – and I’ve had enough of them now not to worry about it. 🙂

Many congratulations on a super blog!

    Happy blogiversary!

Definitely my 21st – had a family party early on, which finished about 10pm – quick change and out clubbing with a massive group of my friends until 6am! Definitely the best of both worlds there – both celebrations were lovely, but very very different!

Growing up, all my birthdays have always been special! Reasons why? My parents made sure to make it special by inviting the entire family in a small ass apartment :p Since I moved from France to the US, I haven’t seen the fam for 11 yrs now. Miss them! Birthdays in France will always be my best memories!

My worst birthday was the year i said to my husband not to bother getting me a present (of course i didn’t mean it!), the day arrived and i waited and waited and waited for him to give me my gift but he never did. When I asked him where my present was he looked shocked and said “but you said not to bother” – in a way it taught me a valuable lesson …… never say something you don’t really mean lol

Last year I was having my hair made extra-pretty for my birthday..when I was just about ready to go, three of my best friends who’d been watching me ran in to surprise me and yelled ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!’ at the top of their voices, much to the annoyance of everyone else. Such a fun surprise 🙂

I remember the early days of ASOS too, in fact it’s only recently I’ve started to shop with them again and OMG have they changed and improved from the old days!

Anyway my last birthday was pretty special because for the first time in 7 years I got to spend it with my nephew who I hardly see as he lives in Thailand, a birthday hug from him is more special than any present I could get!

I remember my 19th birthday, my boyfriend took me to my favourite restaurant but he’s Muslim and can’t eat meat unless it’s Halaal. But he took me there anyway while I sat and ate chicken pasta in front of him! I thought that was really sweet 🙂

I also remember my 6th birthday when my Uncle got me and my sister a bike! 😀 our birthdays are 2 days apart by the way lol I was a tomboy at the time and got a blue bike while my sister got a girly pink one 😛 I ws excited because it was my first bike ever! I learned to ride it shortly after, so exciting 🙂 xx

I was dismayed when my husband’s company said he needed to go to Ottawa on business for the whole of the week of my 50th birthday.

Dismay turned to joy when, after he told them he didn’t want to go,they said it was so important that they would pay for me to go with him. They put us in a luxurious suite hotel and sent me a huge bunch of flowers on my birthday.

On the evening of my birthday we dined at a revolving restaurant. There was a balloon fiesta and just before sunset, hundreds of colourful balloons floeated by. Then at sunset the parliament building was illuminated by a laser light display. And after that there was the final of an insternational fireworks competition, with the sky lit up with thousands of beautiful fireworks.

From our table high above all the surrounding buildings we could see all these events and it felt to me as if thay had been all laid on for me, to make my birtday more special than I could have ever imagined.

When I was 18 my Grandfather gave me a solid gold charm bracelet with charms. He had bought this when I was born and every now and then he would add some charms.
My parents added to this bracelet, unfortunately all my loved ones are no longer with us but everytime I look at the bracelet I am full of beloved memories with each charm that is on the bracelet..birthdays, christmas and just thinking of you gifts.
Best family history heirloom I have.

On my 21st Birthday I came home from work to find my Mum had arranged me a surprise party – I really was amazed!

When i was about 7 i had a birthday party at my house and mum thought as it was a nice day we would have the food outside. all was going well until it came to blowing out the candles…

Although it was sunny outside it was also really windy! every time the candles were lit the wind blew them out again! In the end we had to give up and later that night mum placed and lit 7 candles in my pudding after tea so i didnt miss out on making my wish!

My boyfriend and my best friend made my 21st birthday the most special ever! My best friend was studying in New York for a year and he secretly conspired to buy plane tickets and book a lovely hotel. 2 days before my birthday I was given a card which said ‘pack your bags – we are going to New York tomorrow!’ We flew the next day, had champagne on the plane and on my birthday evening after dinner we climed this giant rock in central park and toasted beers to my birthday with all the lights of the city twinkling around us. it was a perfect moment ill never forget.

Paris – for my 30th birthday. Not very original, but I’d never been before and I didn’t have to arrange anything which was lovely. And when I got there my boyfriend gave me a vintage necklace 🙂

HaPpY bIrThDaY!!!! I have only just found your blog & have loved reading through the archives! And -to celebrate – I treated myself to an Exceedingly Good Country Slice!

My best birthday story? It has to be when my other half bought me a Mandolin. Being the Tudor nut I was back then (still am – but I cannot dress like a Tudor for work and get away with it!)and wanting to emulate one of my heroines, Anne Boleyn, he bought me a mandolin. If that was not enough – he asked an incredibly arty friend of ours to hand paint a Tudor rose on the body!!

I was so blown away I jumped away from it and shreeeeked!! I then promptly burst into sobbing-I-could-not-stop-crying-if-you-paid-me tears (and hiccups). We still talk about it now. And the fact that I still cannot play it. Learning how to do victory rolls and perfect liquid eyeliner is SOOOO much easier!! 🙂

    Happy Blogoversary!
Its hard to choose the best birthdays!
I love them all, but probably my best one was my first trip on a plane – we went to Northern Ireland for my 25th birthday, and I spent the day eating steak, shopping and going on an open top bus tour around belfast! It was freezing cold, but amazing.

By far my best birthday was my 27th when my boyfriend whisked me off to Slough (sexy, LOL!) and then to Heston Blumenthal’s restuarant The Fat Duck in Bray. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life – like eating an art exhibition, a REALLY tasty one. It made for a truly unforgettable birthday. I hope your birthday is a fab one too! x

My story is a long one….

I got married on my 27th Birthday. It was a beautiful day, although everything that could go wrong, did. My cupcakes were being sent from Scotland, and hadn’t arrived the day before as planned. If it wasn’t for my lovely contacts in DHL that I knew from work, they would never have got there at all. They were left outside the reception (which was closed?!) at 1.15pm, wedding was at 2pm. I had no idea they were there until I reached the reception.

Got to registry office, and the whole place was surrounded by police cars, ambulances, and a helicopter hovering above. The building is right beside the court house, which was in session, and someone had punched a police man and absconded from the dock. At 1.30pm. My limo could barely make it up the road, and I had a heartattack wondering what on earth was going on!

After the crazy morning, forgetting the mens buttonholes and lots of other niggles, the rest of the day was glorious.

Roll on to christmas a few months later, and my mum bought me a Mr & Mrs type board game. Playing it with my new hubby after dinner, I asked him which was my most memorable birthday, he confidently replied ‘Your 18th.’

I didnt divorce him, but I havent let him forget about that either!

Brought up as a Jehovahs Witness until I got old enough to escape, I never had a birthday *weeps* just kidding what you dont know you dont miss.

But I was taken out to the park for a birthday picnic one year. My husband said we needed to get back home as he had planned a dinner.

As we turned the corner our street had bunting, balloons and a banner, tables were laid out in my garden and all my friends were there.
There was jelly and icecream, cakes, paste sandwiches all the things a childs party would have. He wanted me to experience the joy of a childs party. He had planned it with a few friends. What a surprise and absolutely a classic party, we played musical bumps as well but it wasnt because of fizzy pop, we had stronger fizzy and were very silly.

Wow. 2 Years Old, and A Giveaway ending on my Birthday!.

A Few Years ago for my 40th, my husband did in fact whisk me off to Paris. We had three days – the first three days without our kids in 12 years of marriage.

We did everything – so much so that my shins were aching on return from walking so much.

Best night of all tho – after the Moulin Rouge, and a walk home through the red light district… we took a bottle of champagne and headed to the roof of our distinctly unglamorous hotel. There was no one there but us, and we stood and toasted ourselves, and drunk in the view – Sacre Coure to one direction, the Eiffle Tower to the Other – the sparking lights, and the beam just setting the city off magically. At that moment in time, I knew that as life was so perfect in one small moment, then nothing should ever stand in the way of holding that happiness close to you all the time.

Since then, if anything takes me away from being so contented, I walk away. There is no reason to be unhappy when such loveliness in the world exists!

My best birthday surprise was my OH flying me home to see my son, i knew nothing about it and they also organised a big surorise party with friends i had not seen in years

One of my favourite birthday presents was a glass jar that my husband had filled with 100 pieces of red card. Inside each one has a reason why he loves me written on it. He said that if ever I have a bad day or feel sad I am to read one of the cards and it will cheer me up. Luckily I’ve not had to read that many of them since he gave it to me but the ones I have read have always managed to put a smile on my face :o)

Thanks for running such a lovely competition and happy birthday to your blog! I love to see all your different outfits and it’s a fun read.
My best birthday present was at my 18th birthday – my mum asked me where I wanted to go and she and I spent 5 amazing days in Paris. It was early September and the weather was amazing – but the clothes we had packed were too heavy and warm. Cue lots and lots of shopping!
It was fantastic to see Paris but also to spend so much time with my mum, I really started to get to know her as a person. A holiday i’ll never forget.
