Playing Dress Up for Halloween

Halloween is 4 days away and I have a house full of rubber snakes that I need to figure out how to weave into my hair.

In the interests of experimentation I decided to play dress up and see if I can cobble together anything for some of the other costume suggestions.

I chose 3 that I actually had some things for in my wardrobe. Namely Anti Vampire Protester, Cat Lady and Absinthe Fairy.

Anti Vampire Protester

50s frock. Check.

Cheesy grin. Check.

God hates Fangs sign. Check

But somehow this still doesn’t quite work for me. I think the dress needs to be more on the pastels side of things and it would probably help to be blonde.

Cat Lady

I went for the least cat like dress I could find. The idea behind this one being to make the contrast between the cat head and the normal dress as obvious and surreal as possible. I have Claires Accessories cat ears and a black nose, but I still don’t think it’s surreal enough, I want a full cat head.

Like this.

Absinthe Fairy

Surprisingly I kinda liked this one in the end. It would need a bit of refining. Better hair, some good jewellery and an actual bottle of Absinthe instead of some vermouth would be a good start.

There’s just one downside. I can’t breathe in that dress at the moment and unless I can lose half a stone in 3 days it ain’t gonna happen.

Have you got YOUR Halloween costume sorted yet?

DEFINITELY the Absinthe Fairy…. I did a photo shoot with a Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland once, and he had made his head entirely out of papier mache. you could try this? that’d look awesome!

Gosh, not sure I’ve got time to make heads out of papier mache this year, but that would be AWESOME!

Love the Absinthe Fairy although it looks more like Fairy Liquid to me (just add washing up gloves and a couple of boozey miniatures).

You could put a toy cat on your head? That would definitely make you a crazy cat lady. Even more so if you stitched another one hanging off your skirt x

    • Retro Chick October 27, 2010

Muhaha! Yes! That’s another idea. Crazy cat lady!

Lol the cat head made me laugh. Go for a panther though, any of those on the loose in your vicinity you could get your man to wrestle to the ground for ya?

I love the Absynthe Fairy too. Don’t worry about needing to breath, it’s overrated.

Sorry Chick – I am a little late to the debate but for what it’s worth – my 2 pence worth is….. FAIRY FAIRY FAIRY!!! BUT… wait… it looks UNCANNILY like True Blood Lorena’s green 1930’s dress? The colour? The neckline (ish)? Personally I think the lushious faux-bob, blood tears and fangs. GO LORENA!! Hope you have a FAB time!!
