Ah, Monday morning here you are again….

Only this time you are so much more cruel as you follow a fabulous week of parties in the Spiegeltent and a weekend of birthday celebrations and eurovision nonsense.

So, as I may have mentioned, Friday was my birthday! I share a birthday with Mr Chick, so technically it was “our” birthday, which is always an excuse for double celebrations. At the Bishops House Open Day the Sunday before I’d bought a 1950s Kitty Copeland dress from the Maddermarket Theatre costume department. It’s purple with a black flock design, a nipped waist and pleating at the hips. So flattering! It has a few issues with fading, but it only cost a miserly £5 and the pattern and dim evening lights mean it’s hardly noticeable.

I think I must also include the following terrifying pictures of me attempting to pout. I don’t think it should be my photographic look of choice….

As it was my birthday I’d spent the afternoon being pampered and preened, including a long overdue hair cut at Flint Hair and a relaxing essential oil facial. Unfortunately this also meant straight hair and covered in oil, so the perfect opportunity to try out my emergency hot rollers! I was quite pleased with the results. It wasn’t as good as a wet set, and I’m not sure I’d trust it to stay in place all day but it did give my hair enough bounce and shape to make my cheats finger waves work!

And the rest of the Birthday evening? It included dinner, cocktails and burlesque. We saw Brilliant Stupidity, including the fabulous Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey and an excellent burlesque routine from the incredibly tall Mr Gorgeous. If you’ve never seen a 6’6″ man doing stocking peels you don’t know what you’re missing.

I finished the night (well, technically started the day after, but who’s counting) wrapped in a hotel room bathrobe, listening to 20s jazz and finishing off a bottle of Ben Nevis malt whisky that was filled to cask on the 13th May 1994 (My 15th birthday!) it was a birthday present last year and I’d saved the last bit for a full year so I could enjoy it.

Bliss…
