Sunday, Sunday

Never let it be said that I only show you the interesting and fancy outfits.

Today I thought I’d show you a more dressed down, comfortable outfit for a Sunday afternoon.

Most people (women!) seem to wear trousers or jeans as their go to comfort outfit, but I’ve never found them a comfortable thing to wear. I have a pair of jersey palazzo trousers, and my Lady K Loves Rosie Trousers (which I just killed the zip on, sob!) which I will wear in a (very cold) pinch, but otherwise I am a confirmed skirts girl.

So, this Sunday when I was heading out for a nice Sunday lunch and a visit to Judy’s Affordable Vintage Fair, this is what I chose to wear.

ā¤ Dress - Vintage 1940s ā¤ Jumper - from a Bootfair ā¤ Coat - Principles via eBay ā¤
 ā¤ Shoes - Clarks via eBay ā¤ Brooch - Vintage from a Bootfair ā¤

I went for What Katie Did seamed tights instead of stockings for a bit of extra warmth, and considering I was planning a big roast dinner and some beer I decided red lips were a bit too high maintenance and went with Soap & Glory Red My Lips.

The dress is a fairly loose fit on the waist, and long enough to be quite warm, so for me this is a low-key Sunday outfit. There still seems to be an overwhelming public opinion that anyone not wearing jeans or a track suit is “dressed up”, so I still manage to give off the impression that I’ve made quite an effort with my outfit, which is a bonus as far as I’m concerned!

I have nothing more interesting to say today as I have to go and plan a far more elegant outfit for #zomgbloggersbash tonight and I have a train to catch!

So. Tell me about your weekend….

OOh I love it. It looks relaxed and fun and (something I always forget to do by accident when dressing more casually) it’s colourful and not 100% black/grey. I am a trouser wearer normally but one thing I must say is that there is nothing more comfy to be found than a nice day dress and some warm tights.

Love the dress, I’m now wishing I hadn’t just thrown on a pair of jeans this morning. Still 0c on the school run is pretty chilly.

I hardly ever wear jeans! I just don;t find them comfortable at all!

      • Mim January 30, 2012

I haven’t owned a pair since the early 90s. Don’t need ’em, don’t miss ’em.

Wow! That’s such a lovely outfit! Prinicples used to do great coats, I’ve got a very similar in perfect Withnail style x

Me likes! My weekend was spent nursing the Beard and rearranging a book sheld. I hasten to add that this did **NOT** take the alloted 5 minutes that my brain had given it – but rather most of the afternoon. Still. It’s nice and tidy now! Rock AND roll!

I knew what you meant šŸ˜‰

That’s a really cute outfit. I’d never have pictured you in pink because of your red hair, but it looks fab. Perky and fun!

I love this look! Makes me want to stock up on some sweaters I can layer over my vintage dresses. The cut of the coat goes with the length of dress perfectly, as well!

I love the dress, I never seem to find any nice vintage dresses, maybe I’m not looking in the right place! We went to the Ballet Friday evening, spent most of Saturday in the car, buying a car, selling a car etc etc. And Sunday staring at the laptop scrambling my remaining brain cell with wordpress themes!!! delish! I seem to have reversed my sleep cycle and spent my time topsy turvy in my nightgown!! xxx

Oh, I love that dress! Your coat is kick ass too.
For winter lazy, I have a plaid wool circle skirt I wear, with either a bright coloured teal tee, topped off with my hair all shoved under a beret and a front roll. If I’m REALLY lazy or tired and happen to be going to a friend’s for a beer, I wear my high-waisted trousers with rockabilly-type shirt. Both these outfits are worn with my bright red loafers AKA the comfiest shoes ever.

You look absolutely lovely! This is a great casual weekend look. I rarely wear jeans or trousers, either. I try and I try so hard to find the perfect pairs, but they always elude me! A girl can only do so much before she has to admit defeat and put on a skirt!

Love this outfit! I’m not very good at dressing down even when I’m trying to be casual.

  • Jenna February 2, 2012

I love your outfit! It looks warm and comfortable, but totally put together and cute. I don’t find jeans all that comfortable, but they’re still my default clothing. That probably means I should go shopping. šŸ™‚

I adore the print on that dress. It’s so unusual.

  • Clare February 3, 2012

I like it lots! I struggle with all trousers, jeans in particular, but I work in quite a casual environment so it’s difficult to find a good smart-casual look that isn’t jeans and a nice shirt and smart jacket. Thinking about trying to pull off the pencil skirt and t-shirt look, but don’t know if I can quite swing it!

    Hello,

Like the courage you have to dress the real vintage way everyday ! Not always easy when you work in an office šŸ™‚
This week-end I found time (between rest and baby) to sew a little bit more of my 40’s black dress and tried to find a very easy knitting pattern of the same periode. Quite hard to find and I am not very good at knitting !
Love your style and blog by the way šŸ™‚
