It’s about time I talked about Glossy Box.

I actually signed up for Glossy Box last August, and paid for it, then 2 days later I got an email offering me a free box, doh! So I cancelled my subscription, and they sent me my next box in October for free. The idea of Glossy Box is that you pay £12.95 a month (sorry £10 + £2.95 P&P), to receive a box of “luxury samples”, which I call travel size, and at least one full size product from a variety of high-end beauty brands. You complete a beauty profile to help them choose the products that are the best fit for your box and then each month, like an expected gift that you’ve paid for, you receive a  box of surprise samples through the door.

I received a couple of free boxes from Glossy Box, then they stopped arriving, and over the last month or so I’d started to think I actually missed it and considered renewing my paid subscription, when lo and behold my postman arrived this morning with another one for me!

The boxes are often themed and this month I have received “The Natural Box”. It’s Earth Month (apparently, should I know this?) and the glossy box this month is 100% biodegradable and contains products that have natural packaging and ingredients.

Namely:

Caudalie Vinosource SOS Thirst quenching serum

Inika Cosmetics Organic Eyeliner in black (full size)

Ayuuri Natural Body wash with oils of Neem, Tea Tree and Peppermint (full size)

Figs and Rouge Lip Balm (full size)

Kai Perfume Oil

£12.95 might seem like a lot of money when you run the risk of not liking anything in the box, but that’s yet to happen to me, and I remember the days when I had a “proper” job with a regular pay packet and I used to go into Boots and think nothing of spending £40 on payday on exciting looking new products. This feels a bit like that, only cheaper and within my current budget!

I’ve also discovered some fantastic new products through the box that I may not have tried. HD Brows eye and brow palette is now something I can’t live without, using it both as eyeshadow and brow shaper and definer and has an RRP of £19.95 all on it’s own. I also fell madly in love with the Mary Greenwell Plum perfume, but with an price of £90 a bottle I have unfortunately had to decide to stick with my sample size for now!

Less succesful products have been Expert Nails High Performance Colour (blue,didn’t really fancy it) and Nail Rock Designer Nail Wraps (gorgeous pattern, a faff to apply and too papery so they peeled off really quick)

As a frequent traveller I’m also particularly fond of the “luxury sample” sizes in things like body wash and body lotion as it means I get to try exciting new products while I’m away, without having to decant my full size ones at home.

If you review the products from the glossy box online you earn 20 Glossy Dots, earn 1000 Glossy Dots and you get a free box. At 5 products a box even my appalling maths skills can work out that you’ll get a free box after 10 months, though you can extra dots for referring friends.

If you’re a fan of trying new beauty products, I think these sort of boxes are worth signing up to, especially if you have a blog where you can review new products without having to pay full price for them.
