Last week I got chance to go to a few press days to have a look at next years collections.
Often press days are more useful for me to see the quality of things in person and find out about new brands rather than to see what’s going to be in stores next season as other than wearing warmer clothes in winter I don’t really do “seasons”. This time round I came across a company I hadn’t heard of before called The Pretty Dress Company. I’ll be honest. If I’d just stumbled on their website I might not have looked twice, but in real life there was a great selection of vintage inspired dresses that I just fell in love with on the spot.
A particular favourite was the style called The Hourglass which is available in a huge range of colours and prints. It has a gorgeous waist detail and there is also a version on the website with slightly longer sleeves.
On the rail for next season was some rather lovely leopard print as well, one with a full 50s style skirt and a high neckline which made me think of Dita Von Teese for some reason (cue hunt for photos of Dita in leopard print)
I was also quite fond of the peplum jackets and dresses which had wonderful nipped waists.
This one on the website currently is available in aubergine, navy and black.

One of the things I’ve always loved about taking inspiration from vintage styles is that you don’t have to stick to original or repro, it’s all in the accessories and styling and you can make one simple dress look like it’s from any decade you care to think of. On the website the models are all styled in a very contemporary way, but if you squint a bit, or maybe cut out a couple of victory rolls and a pair of red lips and blu tack them to your laptop screen they look entirely different.
Now I’m just waiting for that leopard print to arrive online.
