Let’s talk sleep. We all know it’s essential, but how many of us really prioritise it? I’ll be honest, I’ve spent a lot more time in bed in the last few years. Fatigue is a killer, but my quality of sleep isn’t always the best. Good sleep is life-changing. It impacts your mood, your energy, and even your health. Trust me; investing in a good mattress is key.
A standard mattress needs to be replaced every 6-8 years. A memory foam mattress, which we had, can last a bit longer, maybe 8-10 years, and it turns out ours (which I swear is brand new) was 9 years old. Apart from its age, a few things about it weren’t working for me, mainly that memory foam can be quite warm, which can be a nightmare for my post-chemo-induced menopausal hot flushes and night sweats.
So, let me introduce you to my new bedtime obsession: the Simba Hybrid Mattress. Simba asked me if I would like to review one, and I’ve been sleeping on it for about a week now. It’s so comfy I don’t even miss my morning alarm (sometimes). It’s just a shame getting out of it is so hard.
Time to open the box…
What’s Inside?
The Simba Hybrid isn’t your average mattress. Here’s why it stands out:
- Cooling Tech: It’s topped with Simba’s patented open-cell foam, which keeps you cool by letting air flow. No more waking up sweaty—hooray!
- Aerocoil® Springs: This mattress has up to 2,500 tiny titanium springs that move independently to support your body and minimize any nighttime tossing and turning, and you would not know they were there at all.
- High-Definition Foam Layers: The foam is breathable and contouring, so it feels like it’s hugging your body without overheating.
- Zoned Support Base: This clever base is firmer in areas like your back and softer where you need it, like your shoulders. Perfect for all those side-sleepers out there.
Comfort Level? 10/10
Even though our new bed base has yet to arrive, and we are currently sleeping on the floor, I could tell this mattress was different from the first night. It’s firm enough to feel supportive but soft enough to make you feel like royalty. It felt firm at first; then I felt like it was gradually conforming to my body, like a blissful cocoon. Even better—no back pain in the mornings, which was a huge problem for me before.
The mattress came with a mattress topper and a couple of pillows to extend its life, due to a special offer (I’m not sure if it’s still running, keep your eyes peeled.). I’ve actually had one of the pillows for a couple of months, I bought one hoping its NASA cooling technology was going to be a game changer. Honestly, it wasn’t, and it IS extremely expensive as pillows go. HOWEVER, I LOVE the fact that you can adjust the height by scooping out handfuls of the Nanocubes®, and it comes with a little bag to keep them in. So I’m not sorry that I now have 3!
Why Sleep Hygiene Is So Important
Getting good sleep is about more than just a comfy mattress (though that helps, obvs.). It’s also about setting yourself up for success:
- Wind Down: Try journaling, reading, or a short meditation to signal to your brain that it’s time to relax.
- Limit Screen Time: Blue light is the enemy of melatonin, your sleep hormone. Put down the phone at least an hour before bed. Or at least put it on Night Shift to change to a warmer light setting.
- Optimise Your Space: A dark, cool, and quiet bedroom makes a world of difference. And obviously, a Simba Hybrid Mattress doesn’t hurt!
- Keep a Routine: Going to bed and waking up at the same time every day trains your body to get sleepy when it should.
Should You Get One?
Probably. When did you last get a new mattress? It’s one of those things we don’t want to spend money on, but, honestly, think about how much time you spend in it, and how much difference it could make to every single other bit of your life, and its a bit of a no-brainer to go for a decent one. It’s also worth noting that they offer a really good discount for key workers, students, and people working in the charity sector.
So go ahead, treat yourself. Your future, well-rested self will thank you!
