When I talked about bravery and confidence last week, I mentioned how scary organising that first ever event was.
Well, today I am confirming that the next ones don’t get any less scary! I’ve got a couple more things coming up in Norwich in the next few months that I thought I should really let you know about in case you fancy a trip to lovely Norwich (and if you do, let me know. I’ll be happy to show you around the vintage shops and have afternoon tea!)
First up, is a little thing I’m involved in for Norwich Fashion Week. Cinema City are showing Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Wednesday 28th September and have asked Vintage Norwich to take over the bar and make it a party. There’s a years free membership to Cinema City and a Vintage Norwich goodie bag for the best dressed, so it’s a chance to get dressed up for a good old fashioned trip to the cinema!
In the bar during the evening we’ll have a DJ, there will be Bellini’s served at the bar and we’ll be there with a dressing up box of vintage accessories and plenty of reading matter on fashion history for you to pore over and play with. The girls of Vintage Norwich will also be on hand to provide tips and advice on bringing a bit of vintage glamour into your every day look. Tickets for the film are Ā£8.50 and entry to the bar before, during and after is free!
My big news, however, is that it’s time for another Marvellous Cocktail Party
This time round we’ve moved it to a Friday night. We wanted to keep it exclusive, and away from all those big Saturday nights out, but we also wanted you to not have to get up for work in the morning!
We’ve got the amazing gypsy swing band Swingball returning for another set as well as lounge singer Joseph Ballard and our fabulous DJ Earl Harlem and glamorous cigarette girls The Hot Boppin’ Girls. We’ve worked on ways to reduce that queue at the bar and this time there will be a second bar for bottled beers and soft drinks (remember, marvellous cocktails take time, good things are worth waiting for). Our now legendary Chinese auction will also be there again. Amongst the prizes this time is a portable wind up gramophone and some 78s, as well as an array of booze, cocktail paraphernalia and glamorous things.
Tickets will be Ā£20 in advance, but if you’d like to get them for just Ā£18 then visit the Marvellous Cocktail Party website and add your name to the mailing list. On Monday you’ll get an email with a password which will allow you to buy tickets for just Ā£18, for one week only, before they go on general sale.
The last one was a truly marvellous evening, and we haven’t stopped trying to think of ways to make it even better, more glamorous, more sophisticated and even more fun.
We’re keeping it small, as the point of these parties is that they feel intimate and special. Something different from big events with hundreds of people. Last time I was so chuffed when people who’d been brave enough to come alone told me they’d gone home having made new friends at the bar. The flipside of this is that tickets are strictly limited! There are 100 tickets only available, so you’ll need to be quick to make sure you get them!
Anyway, that’s my scary news for now!
If you want to read about the last cocktail party then Lady Cherry and Penny Dreadful both came to visit us!
