Never Knowingly Underdressed.

I am definitely never knowingly under-dressed.

But occasionally I am unknowingly over-dressed.

Yesterday we headed out to meet up with some old friends who were holidaying on the North Norfolk coast. Anticipating a pleasant afternoon of pottering around antiques shops, followed by fish and chips and a couple of beers in a quaint cottage I wore this.

I felt quite french, it’s the Breton stripes and the beret style hat (it’s not a beret, by the way, it’s a little 50s straw hat that perches on top of your head)

I also accidentally made one of the pictures black and white while editing and kind of liked it, so I kept it that way.

What began, however, as a brief trip to have tea and a wander round a lovely country town ended with an impromptu stay over and a trip to the beach. Which meant crossing marshes and walking on pebbles in heels and a hat (not that the hat affected my ability to walk, you understand, it just looks a little incongruous on the beach.)

Still, watching the sunset on the beach with your best friends in the world is a wonderful way to spend an evening, no matter how you’re dressed.

I took some photos of the dramatic sky over the beach and the marshes (and a few of pebbles). You can see more on my Flickr stream, if you’re interested!

If you’re ever looking for a beautiful holiday location that will save you the insanely large carbon footprint you leave when you get on a plane then I really recommend the North Norfolk coast. It’s where I spent my Honeymoon. Check out Blakeney Boltholes for some gorgeously stylish places to stay.

It looks gorgeous, but your poor shoes!

  2. I think the little hat is wonderful, and in my eyes it’s always better to be over-dressed than under-dressed 🙂

  3. Trés Francaise! (I don’t have one of the accents memorized.)

I love that skirt! I will now put a moratorium on new skirt purchases that aren’t the *new* (old) length. Haha. I have one plus a dress.

      It’s “Très Française” 😉

I love this outfit! Especially the shoes, I wish I could find this kind of shoes in Franse 🙁

Love the outfit and it suited the beach perfectly but hoping the shoes made it back ok!! Is the beach near Holt or Holt itself? Our local is Hunstanton and Wells next to the Sea, we visit Sheringham and Cromer too. I like the look of the place so would love to know exactly where , thinking of looking at a B/B next weekend and recommendations.

It was at Salthouse, a very pretty village just on the coast from Holt. There are some very nice B&B’s/ self catering cottages there and I can heartily recommend Cookies Crab Shop for brilliant Seafood! 🙂

  5. Love the outfit – that hat is fabulous! Looks like a lovely day.

I agree with Cate always better overdressed than underdressed!! You look fab!

  8. I love this look on you – so pretty and definitely French. Those photos you took on the beach are wonderful.

I also love the Norfolk coast. I’ve only been once when I walked the Peddars’ Way and North Norfolk Coast Path but I thought it was really beautiful.

  9. Looks beautiful and your outfit looks perfect. I keep considering carrying some of those little flat shoes in my handbag for those times when heels become difficult. I always say better overdressed than underdressed.

You looked gorgeous – as ever – and were very competent in those heels over the pebbles! So glad we got to see you both again, hopefully we won’t leave it too long until the next visit xxxx
