New Year in Norwich

It’s freeeeezing outside.

So, as far as I’m concerned, the only thing to be done is plan to spend New Years Eve in Hawaii.

Be nice wouldn’t it? Instead I’m doing the next best thing and have tickets booked for Bo Nanafana Social Club Hawaiian’d Up.

As far as I can see it’s really the only place for a vintage loving Norwich gal to be on New Years Eve. I refuse to travel far on New Year. It’s not the getting there, it’s the getting home that kills me and squishing into tiny pubs that have charged me to go somewhere I can go free the rest of the year is also not a fun way to spend my time. Bo Nanafana, however, have never failed to provide me with a spectacular event with themed decor and entertainment, plus I can walk there.

This year we’re heading off to Hawaii. The main room band are surf noir kings The Bikini Beach Band

As ever the cabaret stage will play host to a variety of weird and wonderful acts. Last year I watched a man in his pants balance beer on his head and drink it through a washing machine hose whilst juggling knives, so I can’t wait to see how they top that this year….

I do know that the Scantily Clad will be in attendance and there will be magic from Bob Percy. I also know that the Shellac Collective and DJ Lornegerie will be keeping people dancing into the early hours (unless they’re wearing silly shoes, which I probably will be) and that the Swing City Dance Class will be there to teach them how to dance in the first place with free swing dance lessons.

Tickets are £25 either online or from The Rock Collection in Norwich.

I have my floral lei on it’s way, a hair style in progress and even a special drinking vessel planned. My last remaining issue is that the dress I had planned to wear fits me fine. As long as I don’t want to sit down or bend in the middle at all.

Any suggestions for removing an inch from my hip measurement in 2 weeks greatly appreciated, if they don’t involve exercise or dieting then all the better….

What are your New Years Eve plans? Will I see you there?……

  1. sounds love a really fun event. have heard you mentioned it before 🙂 I wish I could go.
In terms of losing an inch, what I’ve been doing for the last week is avoiding dairy, and I have an obsession for it, in coffee, my cereals, yogurts, desserts, don’t get me started on cheese, looooves it! So what I did is leave it aside for a week, instead of lattes I had fruity teas such as strawberry and vanilla, and instead of cereals for breakfast I had fruit and toast, and no cheese on anything. I know with the days ahead it’s hard, but staying off it for a bit, as much as I possibly could, did help feel less bloated, and sometimes that’s all you need to close some tight jeans or a dress.
Another thing is to start a snow battle with your other half every time he leaves the house. Ever so therapeutic and surely burns some calories 🙂

    Merry Christmas by the way!

    1. Christmas not a good time to be trying to lose weight OR inches!

      Must do some exercise…

  2. I have no tips other than shapewear. Or… just standing. So in that case – be sure to buy some gel pad thingys for the inside of your shoes 🙂 Or.. go barefoot? Tis beach themed after all 🙂
As for me – I shall be in a pub owned by my brother in law dressed in my best 1980’s secretary outfit. With massive hair and ridiculously red glossed lips. Wish me luck!

  3. ps) because its fancy dress – not because I have changed decades of interest 🙂

    1. Ha ha! I did wonder……

  4. what a fab advertisement for that event, i LOVE the pics!!! as for NYE, thankfully our upstairs neighbors will be throwing a prohibition-themed party!!!!!!!! can you tell i’m excited?? i made a faux curly lamb capelet for it and still have to make my dress (as a curvy gal, the authentic 20s clothing doesn’t fit my wallet or body!!).

as for the hip issue, isn’t that why they make girdles? or is it possible to let out the side seams for a bit of breathing room?

    1. Yes, I have a girdle, but it’s too lightweight!

I don’t trust myself to do any seamstress work on it. It’s too pretty to ruin just because I can’t stay away from the pies!

I’m going to investigate the modern day girdle/magic knicker option if it’s tight still after Chrsitmas!

  5. I know what you mean about paying to go to the pub. I refuse too. Going to a Hawaiian themed event sounds cool though.

  6. Being able to walk to your New Year’s Eve bash is fine indeed! Bonanafana sounds like quite a spectacle which is what we should expect on New Year’s Eve. I believe in dressing to the nines and going all out to ring in the new year and it sounds like you will be doing just that!

  7. Thank you Retrochick for your wonderful endorsement of our Night. Plans going well – we’ve made hundreds of paper flowers which we’ll string up on hula hoops, a giant sparkly yellow sun to help us forget where we really are – acts from So and So Circus Theatre – swing dance meets acrobatics – and the very wrong Tony Garulo (who I’ve heard is an excellent swing dancer) – plus one of the Scantily clad with a new partner – who’ll be showcasing some new funny walkabout, Miss Dolly Bird who’ll rocking her hula, baby – and we’ll be dancing the Hukilau! And at midnight…..Phew!!! needs to be seen … xxx Meli Kelikimaka (Hawaiian Merry Xmas) See you at the Luau!
