I have recently realised something about my wardrobe.
Frankly, most of it should belong to someone else. A large portion of my wardrobe belongs to the imaginary girl in my head who jumps into her chauffeur driven car, or a cab, spends the evening drinking cocktails and eating canapes at an event filled with super glamorous people and then jumps back into that chauffeur driven car to come home.
I have far too may dresses with jewelled necklines, cocktail frocks and ridiculously high heels that are only fit to walk to the bar and back for someone whose social life consists largely of walking a mile into town, drinking with friends in relatively low key bars and then walking another mile home again.
My wardrobe is full of outfits that I’ve worn all the bits of individually, but am still waiting for the perfect opportunity to wear it all together, like the green and gold cocktail dress that would go so perfectly with my gold sequin stilettos, if only they didn’t look so inappropriately glamorous for anywhere I ever go when I team them together.
Anyway, this is one of my outfits that I am desperate to wear out, and I know its time will come, but I am too impatient to wait for it.
The bag was a gift from Vendula bags, it’s a little lingerie shop on the front and it’s SO CUTE. I knew immediately I wanted to wear with it with this black and white striped dress. So far so good, I can wear that out easy. The monochrome 60s vibe (and watching Made in Dagenham again last week) made me want to team it with some over the top bouffant hair, and the short skirt is just perfect for teaming with those inappropriately high heeled shoe boots I bought in TK Maxx.
Now, I’m not saying I will NEVER get to wear this outfit like this, I’m just saying it has to wait for it’s time when it can all come together. Those crazy high heels are not suitable for a mile walk into the city (and another mile back) and changing shoes just to keep them hidden under a bar table all night and then change back to walk home seems stupid. I know all my friends already think I’m stupid, but I like to prove them right as infrequently as possible.
The bouffant hair alone might go down fine in the old man pub round the corner teamed with a t -shirt and high-waisted trousers, but the monochrome stripes and stilettos might just be too much for them to take all in one go.
Tonight, I am going out for dinner, so maybe that awesome dress and bag will work with flats and a cardigan. But all together? Not yet.
For now this one is staying in that fantasy outfits bit of my wardrobe along with the sailor dress worn with nautical shoes AND hair grips and the strawberry print Collectif dress with matching Strawberry earrings, and the dress with the jewelled collar that will look SO amazing with my hot pink stiletto heels with black ribbon ankle ties.
They need a wedding, or a good fancy dress club night, or a fancy cocktail party to which I am being chauffer driven. Frankly, my life just isn’t glamorous enough to keep up with my wardrobe. Do I need a more exciting life or a less exciting wardrobe?

@Retrochick_uk Wear it to Zak’s later π
Get some of those fold up ballet pumps for the walk to town, they really help get use out of heels!
Yeah, that’s what I do when I wear them, but sometimes, when all I’m doing is going out for dinner, or sitting at a table in a pub all evening I feel like a nutter changing my shoes and no one sees them π
I maybe go out on shoe changing appropriate evenings once a month. I have too many inappropriate shoes for that frequency π
ha ha that is just my wardrobe too! My friends come to me for clothes for weddings/parties and one borrowed a whole suitcase full for a trip to Oz for a multiple day wedding! Day to day wear is just too tricky – in my head I lead one life and in reality another π

You need more Bo Nanafana’s – I’ll try to help
YES! That was where I used to wear it all π
That’s a gorgeous outfit – I hope you find an opportunity for wearing it sooon!

I have that exact dress and I wear it regularly. Last time in England I just wore it shopping in Cambridge. Mind you, but with sexy heels π
Oh yes, I wear the dress all the time, just that exact outfit isn’t really suitable for anywhere I go! Too much walking π
What’s the dress BTW ?! Love it… Don’t think it says in the post?
Ha! It says in the post π It’s Florence and Fred. I got mine last summer in the sale for Β£8. Bargain! Penny
Great post – those shoes are incredible! Love them. π

Such a lovely outfit! I live in heels (I’m really flat footed and have the grace of an elephant when I wear flat shoes π ) and those heels from TK Maxx look so versatile! I’m in love with your gorgeous bag too!
You can never be too glam, you look amazing in that outfit so I would just wear it as is! π
Hee hee, I feel your pain! I could go to red carpet events for the rest of my life and not run out of dresses!
THAT BAG THOUGH. Love the dress as well. It fits you perfectly!
I used to have so many outfits like this, that I’d just never wear. I’ve got better though and now I’m a vission of basics and daywear! (Sigh)
I’d vote for the more exciting life – though yours always looks pretty glam when seen from the other end of the internet, with all those cocktails and events and blogger things to do. But don’t just save nice things for best, make the most of them. I wear diamante to work!
I have a wardrobe of gorgeous dresses unsuitable for anything I do
If it makes you happy why not wear it anyway? I often get asked if I’m off to a wedding when in reality no I’m just buying some wine and pizza for a Friday night in with the husband. Beautiful clothes are fun and I know I always give a secret nod of approval whenever I see someone who has made an effort for no other reason than because they love the clothes they are in (regardless of style). Its genuinely nice to see someone looking stylish in a crowd of baggy jogging bottoms and onesies – not that they don’t have their own time and place
Oh trust me, I am very much used to being the most overdressed person in the room, but practicalities must sometimes rule, and very high heels in particular are tricky to walk in if you need to get somewhere!
I try and tone down the super glam with a chunkier pair of heels!
Ah fair enough, I didn’t realise you meant just shoes specifically! Those heels do look a little dangerous (and gorgeous)

I was just thinking this exact thing after counting my 28 dresses the other day π I buy stuff for my imaginary fancy life, when i actually live in a country market town and need to wear wellies and jeans all the time..
But the fancy stuff is so much prettier! π
I thought this when l was considering making a full length silver satin dress. Then I thought, I will just have to find places to wear it to!
I find the shoes the issue. Lovely shoes are not meant for walking!
Oh please, please, please show us the other outfits!
I’ll work on it!
I’ve started wearing my fancy shoes (usually Miss L Fire) to trips out to the supermarkets, I might only being in them for 10 minutes but I’ve worn my stuff! LOL!
How about hosting small themed gatherings with friends bi monthly? You could bill them as non dress down, have a cocktail and everyone could bring a nibble so you don’t have to do all the work. Outfits worn, cocktail in hand, no walking!
I host an Oscar party (recorded and shown on Monday, the very day after) but each year my friends take it a notch down. I dress up for my Christmas party, too. Dragged two of my female friends along to the races which are in Germany a very low key event, but the three of us wore hats and dresses. But I like the idea of the private cocktail reception, guess my girls usually are not keen on dressing up though they’ll like the drinks π
OMG, I want that bag! And that dress! You are awesome π

I too have outfits I’ve yet to wear, I think they too belong to the imaginary girl in my head – the one who is two dress sizes smaller. and ten years younger!
