The Outfits I Never Get to Wear

I have recently realised something about my wardrobe.

Frankly, most of it should belong to someone else. A large portion of my wardrobe belongs to the imaginary girl in my head who jumps into her chauffeur driven car, or a cab, spends the evening drinking cocktails and eating canapes at an event filled with super glamorous people and then jumps back into that chauffeur driven car to come home.

I have far too may dresses with jewelled necklines, cocktail frocks and ridiculously high heels that are only fit to walk to the bar and back for someone whose social life consists largely of walking a mile into town, drinking with friends in relatively low key bars and then walking another mile home again.

My wardrobe is full of outfits that I’ve worn all the bits of individually, but am still waiting for the perfect opportunity to wear it all together, like the green and gold cocktail dress that would go so perfectly with my gold sequin stilettos, if only they didn’t look so inappropriately glamorous for anywhere I ever go when I team them together.

Anyway, this is one of my outfits that I am desperate to wear out, and I know its time will come, but I am too impatient to wait for it.

The bag was a gift from Vendula bags, it’s a little lingerie shop on the front and it’s SO CUTE. I knew immediately I wanted to wear with it with this black and white striped dress. So far so good, I can wear that out easy. The monochrome 60s vibe (and watching Made in Dagenham again last week) made me want to team it with some over the top bouffant hair, and the short skirt is just perfect for teaming with those inappropriately high heeled shoe boots I bought in TK Maxx.

1960s style

Now, I’m not saying I will NEVER get to wear this outfit like this, I’m just saying it has to wait for it’s time when it can all come together. Those crazy high heels are not suitable for a mile walk into the city (and another mile back) and changing shoes just to keep them hidden under a bar table all night and then change back to walk home seems stupid. I know all my friends already think I’m stupid, but I like to prove them right as infrequently as possible.

The bouffant hair alone might go down fine in the old man pub round the corner teamed with a t -shirt and high-waisted trousers, but the monochrome stripes and stilettos might just be too much for them to take all in one go.

Tonight, I am going out for dinner, so maybe that awesome dress and bag will work with flats and a cardigan. But all together? Not yet.

For now this one is staying in that fantasy outfits bit of my wardrobe along with the sailor dress worn with nautical shoes AND hair grips and the strawberry print Collectif dress with matching Strawberry earrings, and the dress with the jewelled collar that will look SO amazing with my hot pink stiletto heels with black ribbon ankle ties.

They need a wedding, or a good fancy dress club night, or a fancy cocktail party to which I am being chauffer driven. Frankly, my life just isn’t glamorous enough to keep up with my wardrobe. Do I need a more exciting life or a less exciting wardrobe?
